On June 20, 2013, a new name, broadened direction and increased scope of services were announced at Volunteer Calgary’s Annual General Meeting. The new name, Propellus, reflects their mission to ‘strengthen organizations’ and reinforces their vision of ‘thriving, engaged communities.’
The impetus behind the changes at Volunteer Calgary was the acquisition of Centrepoint in 2011, which resulted in a significantly broadened scope of services available to the non-profit sector.
After a year of intensive brand research, Volunteer Calgary finalized their new name, vision and mission for the organization. Reflecting on today’s announcement, Jamie Niessen, President and CEO noted, “It became apparent that we were an organization whose name did not reflect what we were offering to the non-profit community.”
For over 50-years, the organization has been known for strengthening organizations through volunteerism. “Now we are so much more and our new name is a reflection of that, dynamic and results focused, exactly what Propellus is all about,” commented Niessen. “We are offering training, consulting and learning communities that will make organizations stronger at engaging people, strategic planning, board readiness and financial sustainability.”
“The staff team has worked hard to develop training and learning programs that will help non-profits develop and enhance their own resources which in turn will help to create a thriving and engaged community,” says Christopher Dougherty, newly elected Propellus Board Chair.
Over the course of Volunteer Calgary’s long history, volunteers have always been and continue to be an incredible resource for the non-profit sector and Propellus will continue to promote and connect volunteers and non-profit organizations through their services, including their website.
